While you were sleeping, markets in Asia didn't just fall, they collapsed. Japan's Nikkei plummeted nearly five percent, and South Korea's KOSPI crashed over seven and a half percent.
This is the global aftershock from yesterday's US inflation print, which came in hotter than anyone expected. That news put a Fed rate hike squarely back on the table, and now risk assets everywhere are paying the price. Crypto is getting hammered—Bitcoin is down almost three percent, and Ethereum is down over five and a half percent today.
And the narrative that's cracking is the most crowded one: AI. One headline out of Asia explicitly calls this an 'AI Chip Valuation Crisis.' At the exact same time, Apple just closed above a five trillion dollar market cap. This isn't a risk-on rally. It's a flight to perceived safety as the rest of the market burns.
The easy-money macro environment that fueled the AI hype is officially over. Inflation is back in the driver's seat. I'm tracking the fallout on the 'Hot Inflation Shatters Soft Landing' page over on korra dot finance. The question now isn't which AI model is best—it's what the Fed is about to break.
