Global government bond yields are hitting levels not seen in decades this morning. This isn't just a story for bond traders—it's the market sounding a serious alarm on inflation, and it changes the game for every other asset.

This is being driven by a one-two punch. First, Eurozone inflation just printed a three-year high at 3.3 percent, surprising everyone. At the same time, flaring violence in the Middle East is pushing oil prices higher, adding fuel to the fire. The market is suddenly being forced to price in a world where inflation is not going away.

My read is that the complacency we saw last week is officially over. The debate has completely shifted. Look at the prediction markets: Polymarket now gives a 56 percent chance that the Fed actually hikes interest rates in September. A week ago, people were still talking about the timing of cuts. That's how fast the ground has moved beneath our feet.

This bond market shock is exactly the kind of scenario we've been outlining on the Geopolitics, Oil Volatility, and a Disconnected Fed page over on korra dot finance. The real tell for the market isn't what Bitcoin or the Nasdaq does at the open. It's whether these bond yields keep pushing higher. If they do, the pain for risk assets has only just begun.
